Mark Cuban Sets Sail on Silicon Samurai’s Sister Ship

The other day we wrote about Musashi, Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison’s new samurai-style 288-ft. Feadship. The impressive yacht was actually launched alongside a nearly identical vessel, at least on the exterior, the 288-ft. Feadship Fountainhead. Both yachts were designed by De Voogt Naval Architects with interiors by Sinot Yacht Design. Full details of Fountainhead’s dĂ©cor have not been released, so it’s difficult to say how closely it resembles Musashi, but observers have speculated that the pair of billionaires got some kind of “two for one” deal from Feadship, or at any rate saved money by doubling up on the design and build contracts.

Both feature a basketball hoop on the aft deck, in any case. Fountainhead features luxury accommodation for 12 guests and 16 crew including a massive owner’s suite, and is capable of a maximum speed of 19 knots with a cruising speed of 17 knots. As for the name, Cuban is an avowed fan of author / philosopher Ayn Rand, who wrote the book of the same name. “It was incredibly motivating to me,” Cuban has said of the novel. “sIt encouraged me to think as an individual, take risks to reach my goals, and responsibility for my successes and failures. I loved it.”
