Young Spain-based industrial designer Stefan Radev is destined for great things. A while back he unveiled his impressive Blue Dynamics Landyacht eco-vehicle. For his latest project he’s given the $60 million Gulfstream G550 jet a makeover, including some nifty iPad controls a la P. Diddy’s Solemates superyacht. From the exterior livery to the seating arrangements, Radev’s design scheme is simple, elegant, ergonomic and basically a hell of a lot more tasteful than most of what’s currently out there. Whether you would in fact actually want to let your iPad fly a $60 million jet while you party with the pilots as he suggests is sort of beside the point.
It’s also full of eco-friendly touches like bamboo woodwork, something of an empty gesture when you’re talking about a plane that burns a fortune in fuel, but a step in the right direction nonetheless. Natural light is emphasized – no turning the aft of the plane into a shag-carpeted nightclub for Mr. Radev – with oversized oval-shaped windows and neutral tones complementing the bamboo in an open-plan interior equally suited to working or lounging. iPads also control the various climate and entertainment functions for the passengers, of course.
