One of the most beautiful 1950s Italian motorsports classics ever, the ex-Nando Pagliarini / 1957 Mille Miglia Maserati 200Si with coachwork by Carrozzeria Fantuzzi, is being offered for sale by Kidston in Geneva for about $2 million. One of only a handful of examples built for the factory’s works team and gentlemen drivers competing in the 2 litre class of late-1950s European and American sports car racing, the 200si is an alluring combination of rarity, beauty and speed. Add an impeccable and nearly unbroken racing pedigree and you can see this baby won’t be on the market for long.
The model on offer from Kidston is chassis no. 2415, delivered to Nando Pagliarini in whose hands it enjoyed a glittering career: the Mille Miglia, Mont Ventoux, Castell’Arquato Vernasca, Aosta-Gran San Bernardo, Trieste-Opicina and Bologna-San Luca are just some of the races contested, with frequent class victories. In 1959 the car was sold to a gentleman racer in the U.S. and has appeared in various historic events, stopping for a full restoration in 2000 and culminating with an appearance at the Mille Miglia in 2005. If the $2 million pricetag is a bit out of your reach you can get your hands on an affordable classic Maserati like this 3500 GT on James for a fraction of that.
