The holy grail for both James Bond fans and Rolex aficionados, an actual Rolex chronograph worn by the famed secret agent in one of the movies, is being offered for sale in Miami. The watch is something of a rarity, not to mention a beauty, in itself, a stainless steel pre-Daytona chronograph ref # 6238. So not the Submariner model that’s the most famous Bond Rolex featured in several films, and not worn by one of the better-known Bonds either – George Lazenby in 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. More interesting by far, however.
Lazenby, who only starred in the one Bond film, gets a lot of flack but we happen to think he’s underrated as 007. In any case, the Rolex was originally purchased by Bond filmmakers EON productions on October 23, 1968, and was later sold off among other props from the film. It last surfaced at Christie’s Film and Entertainment sale in London in 2003, where it went for $40,000. Recently acquired by Miami’s Matthew Bain Inc., it’s now being offered at an undisclosed price and could easily fetch $250,000 or more.
