As maker some of the most exotically, not to say flamboyantly styled supercars on the market, no one could accuse Lamborghini of taking a nap in the design department. That only seems to spur on design students however who would make them even more outlandish; witness Slavche Tanevsky’s Batmobile-esque Ankonian concept we told you about recently and Emil Baddal’s next-generation Gallardo. Now Belgian design whiz David Cardoso, who previously garnered some attention with an edgy take on the BMW M6 has thrown his hat into the ring with a rear-engined Lamborghini SUV concept dubbed the Conquisto.
At first glance it may seem somewhat antithetical to Lamborghini’s embodiment of the ultimate in Italian race-bred sports models. But no high-end auto maker can afford to ignore the raging success of the Porsche Cayenne, showing that an sportscar-SUV hybrid can mean serious business. Witness Aston Martin’s new Lagonda concept, which resembles the Conquisto quite a bit. The two-door vehicle does have the look of a jacked-up Gallardo to a certain degree, while the four-pipe sports exhaust system and massive air intakes front and rear indicate the beast lurking beneath the bonnet. We don’t know whether Lamborghini has any plans to put something like this into production, but they should probably give it some serious thought.
