If it’s good enough for Bond…

The James Bond movies have always featured heavy product placement in one way or the other. Nothing wrong with that (especially considering how much it revitalized Omega back in the day) per se, but there’s tasteful advertising and then there’s… well. You all remember the train scene from 2006’s Casino Royale. We’ve written quite a bit about the British spy here at James Spotting, and I suggest you check out some of our articles from last year if you’re as obsessed as we are.

The last few Bond flicks, apart from the aforementioned Casino Royale, have been rather weak. However, they have featured one example of product placement rarely mentioned in these circumstances. I’m talking about Britain’s finest, Sunseeker. Managing director Robert Braithwaite said in a 2006 interview (Casino Royale featured a Predator 108 owned by the film’s villain, Le Chiffre) that “as a privately-owned British company and a leading worldwide brand associated with luxury, style and performance there’s a great deal of synergy with the quality and distinction represented by every Bond film. Worldwide exposure of this kind can further enhance awareness and recognition, and benefit our efforts to increase and extend international sales activity”.

The decision to include Sunseeker in the Bond movies to me is an example of how product placement should be done. It’s not in your face but it’s there for you to find if you have an interest in these kinds of boats. And who doesn’t?

The reason that prompted me to write this article is the Predator 82 that is available on JamesList. A 2006 model, she features a completely bespoke interior. How about a straight grain maple satin finish to the interior panels with oak panel flooring in the deck saloon? Delicious. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves…

Man, I’ve stayed at hotels worse than this baby. The Predator is located in Mallorca and currently listed at £1,699,000.
