Berlin-based automotive innovator Sasha Selipanov likes to style himself the “Angry Car Designer.” If we had to take a guess, we’d say it’s because he keeps coming up with beautiful designs that never see the light of day. Take his latest offering, a pie-in-the-sky look at a possible replacement for Ferrari’s big beast, the 612 Scaglietti, due for an update (according to Modena) in 2012. Considering the famed marque just released a 599 GTO, it seems unlikely in the extreme that the new 612 could be a GTO as well – but that’s Selipanov’s slick vision.
As with any concept car, oglers and observers alike look to nail the “derivatives” – in this case a kitchen sink of supercars ranging from Ferrari’s famed 250 GTO (an obvious inspiration), new 458 Italia, the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, and Aston Martin One-77; in particular, 458 Italia headlights, 8C Competizione grille, 250 GTO side vents, and the One-77’s sinuous lines. That’s an over-simplification, of course; the 612 GTO is nothing short of a dream car no matter where various bits and pieces may have originated. It’s the final package that counts, and Selipanov delivers in style.
