
One of the best-looking new superyachts currently under production will also be one of the most eco-friendly, showing you needn’t sacrifice aesthetics in order to respect the environment. The €32.5 million, 61-metre steel and aluminum Columbus 199, designed by Hydro Tec’s Sergio Cutolo and currently under construction at the Palumbo shipyard in Naples, is being built to RINA (Registro Italiano Navale) Green Star code, a classification identifying ships which are designed, constructed and operated in such a way as to ensure maximum respect for the environment.
Slated for completion in 2012, the five-decked craft boasts low fuel consumption, awe-inspiring maneuverability and reduced draft in addition to supermodel looks.
Powered by twin MTU 16V 4,000 M60 diesel engines coughing up a top speed of 18 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots, with a range of 5,000 nautical miles at cruising speed. She can accommodate up to 16 guests in seven staterooms, including four cabins on the lower deck, two VIP cabins on the main deck, and a full-beam master suite on the upper deck, along with 13 crew. Luxe touches include a gym, spa pool, beach club area aft of the tender garage, and elevator serving four of the decks.
