I’m vehemently and categorically against the production, distribution and endorsement of replicas. Fake watches are for fake people, or however that silly ad campaign went last year. However, I just might make an exception in this case.
Remember the Maybach Exelero? The black beauty was commissioned by Fulda Tyres five years ago as a reference vehicle for their new generation of tires. It featured a bi-turbo V12 and 700 hp, along with a top speed of 218 mph and reaching 62 mph in 4,4 seconds. The singular example produced was promptly purchased by André A. Jackson for an undisclosed sum thought to be around $8 million.
Take a look at the Exelero in action, driven by Jay-Z below.
The notion of “why do you own a replica, get the real one” doesn’t really apply in this situation. Apart from the exorbitant price tag, there are simply none available. It’s like telling someone to not buy a replica of the Mona Lisa. For this reason, some fanatics has taken it upon themselves to build their own “budget” (well, I say budget) variants of the Exelero, with 2010 Dodge Vipers as bases at the more palatable price of €550,000. For that dough, you get an 8,3L engine, V10 with 800 hp compressor, 23 inch wheels, all hand assembled in Switzerland. Both the exterior and the interior can be fully customized to every customer’s wishes.
Yeah, I don’t fully understand it either. The car is available for order on JamesList, take a closer look here.
