Cuervo y Sobrinos Semanal, nostalgia under the Habana sun

If you follow us here at James Spotting, you probably haven’t missed me professing my love for old school chronographs. One watchmaker that is steadily growing on me is Cuban-turned-Swiss brand Cuervy y Sobrinos. The company’s specialty seems to be throw-back designs with updated features like the Historian we reported on back last summer. After all, C&S’s heyday was without a doubt the 1940’s.

With BaselWorld just around the corner, C & S have released some pictures of their latest creation, the Semanal.

semanal

Striking, isn’t it? At first, I couldn’t figure out what the outermost numbers were supposed to represent, but after some indepth research (consisting of a 30 second phonecall to a Chilean friend of mine), it turns out that “semanal” means weekly, and that the numbers are a weekly indicator (there’s just over 52 weeks in a year, hence the 53). The movement is a decorated C&S cal 2853 (base ETA) fitted inside a case with an updated size of 45mm. Ahi nama!
