A partnership between luxury watch maker Bovet and luxury car designer Pininfarina makes sense given the nature of each company. At the same time, Pininfarina is known as a name on high end modern performance automobiles, while Bovet makes extremely classic looking timepieces. It is not clear to me what a collaboration between the two will result in. Alas, we only have a teaser image before the upcoming Bovet Tourbillon Grande Date watch by Pininfarina watch will be released in June 2010.
The watch will be limited to just 80 pieces made entirely in-house at Bovet. After two years of development you can see in the teaser image that the watch will feature a totally open dial with a movement in dark tones similar in look to the engine of a performance supercar. Like most Bovet watches, the crown will be located at the top of the watch – meant to be similar to pocket watches. As the name implies the watch will have a tourbillon complication and also a grande (big) date complication. One can tell that this is going to be a modern looking piece. An evolution on the classic Bovet look with a masculine update. One can look at the stencil style font on some of the dial numerals to get a glimpse of the watch’s personality.
I suspect this watch will retail for somewhere in the $100,000 range. Perhaps this Pininfarina designed watch will cost close to a Pininfarina designed car. If the partnership goes well, expect to see additional Pininfarina branded Bovet timepieces in the future.
