New Zealand’s Alloy Yachts, builders of killer super sailers, is underway on its largest sailing yacht to date, a 67-metre Briand ketch dubbed the AY41. The stunning yacht will have an incredible interior to match courtesy of French designer Christian Liaigre, a bastion of perfect taste whose clients include Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfeld and Rupert Murdoch. The unnamed owner of AY41 instructed Liaigre to create an “urban at sea” environment for the interior of the sleek craft, set to launch by the end of the year.
Noted naval architect Philippe Briand’s brief meanwhile was to design a high-performance sailing yacht capable of comfortable world cruising as well. He custom-spec’d an aluminum hull and superstructure along with carbon fibre spars and standing rigging to get the job done, as well as a 223-ft. main mast and a 205-ft. mizzen. Accommodations include five staterooms and a convertible gym housing 12 guests along with 11 crew. A 26 ft. limousine tender will be fitted for excursions as well.
