California-based Zero Motorcycles has come out with a cool new high performance electric sportbike – its got everything but the ear-splitting engine noise, admittedly an attraction for many motorcycle enthusiasts – and the nasty exhaust, which isn’t an attraction for anybody. Last year the company’s Zero X electric dirtbike was a big hit, leading to this street legal upgrade. The Zero S delivers instant torque and power from a standstill and ultra-smooth acceleration, for starters. The bike’s lightweight and rigid twin spar frame is made exclusively of aircraft grade aluminum.

Combined with their proprietary Z-Force lithium ion power pack, it makes for one fast, clean ride. At only 225 lbs. and with a low center of gravity the bike has an industry leading power-to-weight ratio that increases its range and maneuverability. The range on a full charge is up to 97 km with a top speed of 96.6 km/h. You just plug it in and the Zero S recharges in less than 4 hours, which works out to a cost of less than €1 per run. The bike itself will run you about €7,000 but just imagine never having to stop for gas.
