The newly launched 46-metre Sycara IV from the Burger Boat Company is a stylish throwback to the 1920s carefully designed to create minimal “footprint” when cruising America’s mighty rivers and Great Lakes, with a foldable mast for passing under bridges. The aluminum-bodied craft, constructed at Burger’s historic Wisconsin shipyard, perfectly resembles a classic wooden motor yacht with a classic schooner bow and fantail hull such as JFK’s famed Honey Fitz, which the Sycara’s owners had chartered.

Bruce King handled the naval architecture while both the Art Deco-inspired interior and 1920’s exterior were done by UK-based designer Ken Freivokh, who worked on the Maltese Falcon. The interior woodwork is a masterpiece of handcrafted mahogany and madrone burl, with ebony, sycamore and padouk accents highlighted with stainless steel details in scores of inlays and moldings. Lalique bathroom fixtures are the finishing Deco touch. Of course she’s also equipped with every bit of state-of-the-art tech you’d expect in a modern superyacht, but you have to look hard to find it under all those retro fittings.
