The Bling Is Back: 2009 Rolex Daytona White Gold With Diamonds

Oh Rolex, how swiftly you bounce from impressive diving tools to fashion watches. The new Sea Dweller Deep Sea was a beautiful thing with the fit and finish a king could enjoy. Then you gave us new Submariners and a larger Datejust, and now you return to your love of bling. There was a while when the Rolex Daytona was “the” watch to own. Waiting lists, VIP treatmets, pricing over retail. It was a delight to Rolex, and a pain for the consumer. Then the inventory started to catch up with the demand. Will the myth of the Rolex Daytona ever be the same? Hard to say. Well Rolex is trying to keep the line sexy, and this new version in not only in white gold, but also diamond studded. Enough diamonds to almost blind your vision from sparkle trauma.

Two versions are available for the 2009 line including a version with Arabic numerals and one with Roman numerals. What is your taste? The watches are covered in full pave with diamonds, but don’t let that mask the true allure of the watch that is underneath. Inside is the automatic Rolex Caliber 4130 movement with a whopping 70 hours of power reserve. The watches are also all Chronometer certified – but that is the case with most every Rolex watch. What gets me is the silly name that the watches actually have. No, they aren’t just Rolex Daytona watches, but rather “Rolex Oyster Cosmograph Perpetual Daytona watches.” And that doesn’t include the language about the diamonds. Really? Why is all that necessary? Branding city right there, and what exactly is a Cosmograph? Then again, it is Rolex, and they want people knowing each little piece of the brand that they are buying into. For all my jesting, I would proudly sport this watch, and so would you.
