So that last term I sort of made up. “Luxuriated,” but I think you get the idea. Like “hydrated,” only with luxury, not water. Well the term came clearly after seeing this image released by TechnoMarine. Here you have Christian Viros, the Chairman of TechnoMarine, and new CEO Vincent Perriard. Each symbolically rising out of the water in some pseudo baptismal manner. What a watch related religious experience! The Photoshopped image looks quite grand, with the serious looks on the faces of what should be happy men. Well, the luxury watch economy sucks, and TechnoMarine is still known for plastic women’s dive style watches with diamonds on them. So I guess the duo has a lot of work ahead of them. I have faith in them actually.

You see, I am a pretty outspoken critic of Vincent’s last role at the helm of Concord watches, where he launched the C1 watch collection. A collection of watches with a design, that… less than inspired me. In fact, I was quite the outspoken critic of the looks that  I considered homely, and not suitable for a watch of those price ranges. I did however applaud Concord’s efforts and have a feeling that Vincent’s style is better suited to lower cost watches where people are more inclined to buy wild watches. Still, TechnoMarine watches aren’t cheap, just not $10,000 expensive. I think they need to remain at the $200 – $2,000 range to stay competitive. TechnoMarine is just not the type of brand name I would shell out $10,000 on. It doesn’t sound “designer enough.”

With Perriard comes a new executive team. Aimed and moving the direction of the watch maker into a new direction. In their own words, the brand will have a “fresh direction, and cool factor.” Pretty much exactly what they need. Basel 2010 will be the first time the world gets to see their new creations, with more to come in the following months. So until then we can only speculate on what cool marine style creations the “new” TechnoMarine company will have in store for us.
