Alex Roy, Gumball veteran and cross continent record racer has entered professional motorsport. Not driving himself but rather leaving that to professional racing drivers Henri Richard and René Villeneuve, Mr Roy’s Team Polizei 144 liveried Porsche GT3 debuted at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca yesterday for the Grand Am Rolex series. Finishing in 12th place in the GT class, and 24th overall, the team is extremely pleased with their feat.

With Villeneuve driving the first 2 hours of the race due to the yellow flags not going according to the teams strategy, Henri Richard was in charge of securing the 12th place finish during the last 45 minutes of the race. In scorching heat and a track that is notoriously hard to set up the car for, Team Polizei’s official racing debut is seen as a tremendous success. According to team kapitän Mr Roy, he only wanted the car to finish. It did and the saga continues.

Alex Roy enjoys a cult following after having entered famous road rally Gumball 3000 disguised as German Autobahn polizei. Securing several unofficial wins in preparation for what he had dreamed of doing since taking up road rallying; breaking the cross country record. On October 9th 2006, Roy broke that record crossing the north American continent, New York to Santa Monica. It was previously set during the US Express in 1983 by Doug Turner and David Diem in a Ferrari 308, equipped to the hilt to handle the marathon journey, was 32:07. Alex Roy beat that time with 1 hour and 3 minutes.  The full story can be read here.
