The famous Spring Drive movement is one of the more exciting horological inventions in the last few years. Personally, apart from a select few pieces (the Spacewalk and some GMT offerings to name a few), I’ve been rather underwhelmed by the actual watches that the new fancy movements have been going in to. This time, it seems that Seiko have stepped up their game quite a bit. The Galante line of watches consist of limited editions that are, to the best of my knowledge, only available in a handful of stores in Japan. Some of the previous Galante pieces have looked a bit too gimmicky to me, but the new 5th anniversary Special Edition is something else. It features the 5R66 SD movement which under good conditions shouldn’t deviate more than 15 seconds per month. The case measures just under 45mm and is water resistant to 20atm. I just love the ornamental work on the case, and the small detailing like the ruby on the internal bezel (at number five, commemorating the anniversary).
No idea how you would get ahold of one, but the translated price (from yen) is just above €6,000.
