As supercars go the Audi R8 is about as understated as it gets. While that would obviously seem to be the point for most people, to others it’s a fairly blank canvas upon which to design something much more outlandish. Perhaps because they are also German, however, tuning firm PPI Automotive Design GmbH’s version is remarkably restrained. Dubbed the Razor GTR, PPI’s engineers carefully considered upgrades were implemented following a year of racing, wind tunnel development, and autobahn and track testing to determine where the car could most use a little tinkering. They decided to focus on optimising the power-to-weight ratio, boosting the former while reducing the latter.

A specially engineered supercharger, ram-charged sport air filter system and a high performance exhaust system made of stainless steel were custom designed to deliver 580 hp and 600Nm of torque, while the R8’s 1,580 kg kerb weight was reduced by more than 250kg, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in only 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 332 km/h. To handle it a new front bumper, diffuser, side skirts, and hood made from carbon-fibre were fitted, along with extra-wide 19″ forged alloy wheels, an updated brake package with six-piston calipers, and that tuner’s favorite, a hydraulically adjustable suspension kit for a bit of the old up and down. We think the end result looks fantastic – at least until some idiot gives it one of those clown makeup paintjobs.
