Marten Debuts New Carbon Fibre Cruiser

We readily admit to having caught the carbon fibre bug. Perhaps it will one day go the way of 8-track tapes when some new super-composite comes along, but for now we can’t get enough of the stuff. Our new favorite usage is Australian yacht builder Azzura Marine’s Marten 49, a sleek-lined, super-stylish cruiser-racer with a carbon fibre hull, bulkheads and deck. Designed for maximum flexibility and maneuverability and luxury, Marten adapts advanced technologies to produce the ultimate dual purpose vessel.

That’s evidenced by the boat’s innovative hydraulic lifting keel for improved draught and performance when racing and reduced draught for accessibility to harbours and anchorages when cruising, in addition to a retractable carbon bow prod. Meanwhile Marten, which was founded in New Zealand by Steve Marten in 1972 and quickly established an international reputation for composite yacht construction with several America’s Cup and Whitbread challengers, is already at work on its next model, the Marten 67. Ah – 18 more feet of carbon fibre.
