For me Greubel Forsey watches have been hit and miss. I admit of course that each of their watch have been technically interesting, but for a while, each now “Invention” wasn’t looking too inventive – the names of their watches, less inventive. The newest watch is this Double Tourbillon Technique. What does “technique” mean? I am really not sure, but I know what “Double Tourbillon” is. The double tourbillon has been done before. It is literally one tourbillon inside of another in this case. Other double tourbillons have two tourbillons that almost “cancel each other out.” Meaning they are there to simply average the time, but it is all a technical ballet versus anything practical.

The outer tourbillon spins once each 4 minutes, while the inner tourbillon is a 1 minute tourbillon. Th watch case is available in rose or white gold, and also in platinum – and is 47.5mm wide. The allure of the watch is the open work of the dial and movement. Meaning there is no dial, the whole watch is the exclusive hand-made Greubel Forsey movement that embodies all of the functions and readouts. Aside from the hour and minute hands, there is a power reserve indicator and subsidiary second’s dial. You can look right through the manually wound movement due to double sapphire crystals over the watch. So for me, this is exactly what Greubel Forsey should be all about. The style and technical aspects of this watch hit that sweet spot of “done just right.” It looks exciting, while also being tasteful and not too complex to read. This is the Greubel Forsey I’d lust for. Price is $400,000 plus most likely.
