Cutting edge UK-based Patterson Boatworks has come out with its first electric performance vessel, the 24-ft. FE 23 Elektra. A heady blend of the old and the new designed by Nigel Irens, the eco powerboat features traditional craftsmanship married to state-of-the-art hull dynamics and electrical motive technology. In other words, the high-tech foam-cored, carbon composite hull with its extremely graceful lines features English oak, cherry Douglas fir and aluminum-inlanid teak topsides.

The cockpit comfortably accommodates six people plus the helmsman, while the open stern doubles as a swim platform. The Elektra is powered by a 144-volt, 23 kw lithium-iron-phosphate battery array good for up to 3,000 recharges, connected to a Lynch high-torque V-drive electric motor that propels the craft at speeds of up to 15 knots for one hour, or seven knots for 80 miles. While Patterson is enjoying the positive response to the boat, they’re still focused on their main business of building sleek sailing yachts. Hard to get greener than that.
