Drive Like Christian Slater

Celebrity provenance can be of dubious value in many cases – does the fact that Rod Stewart drove around in a hideous lime green Lamborghini make it any more appealing? – but it never hurts to spark interest in an otherwise unremarkable auto auction. On May 18 Bonhams’ will offer cars previously owned by Hollywood star Christian Slater and the Aga Khan at their Collectors’ Motor Car Sale at the S.A.S. le Prince de Monaco Motor Museum in Monaco. Slater’s car is a 1984 Aston Martin V8 Volante, finished in gray with a matching gray leather interior. The True Romance star purchased it from a classic car dealer in Los Angeles in 1997.

It was a pretty cool choice actually, but he’s always been one of Hollywood’s cooler (if sometimes whacked-out) stars. With an estimate of only €40,000 – €50,000, Slater’s Aston is hardly the highest-priced lot in the sale. That’d be the 1928 Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 Mille Miglia Speciale, one of only three in existence, expected to fetch €700,000 – €800,000. There’s also the world’s first Porsche 906, built in 1966, which is looking for €550,000 – €650,000. As for the Aga Khan’s wheels, his 1988 Porsche 959 is estimated at €200,000 – €230,000. For the money we’d probably pick Slater’s ride.

If you’re not quick enough at auction time though, check out the Astons on James.
