Cuervo Y Sobrinos Historian Chronograph Watch

Does this watch remind you of Habana? Have you been to Habana? Probably not the famous Habana (Havana) of old that was once a playground for wealthy and famous. It was around those times that Cuervo Y Sobrinos was a thriving Cuban watch brand. Years later the company is now Swiss owned, and their latest models is a direct throw back to the 1940s. This new watch is the limited edition of 50 pieces Cuervo Y Sobrinos Historian Chronograph. Nice touch there with the “Historian” name. The model is meant to look like a classic Cuervo Y Sobrinos watch from the 1940s and it looks it. But today’s watch is larger at 41mm wide and in 18k rose gold. Another element you would not have found on watches back then were sapphire crystals (used on the front and back of the watch), as well as the multi-level dial.
You might have found the movement back in the 1940s though. Inside the watch is a vintage Venus Calibre 188 movement that is a 30 minute bi-compax chronograph that is manually wound. Cuervo Y Sobrinos got their hands on some of these NOS (new old stock) movements and I have a feeling they are going to be nicely decorated as viewed through the caseback window of the watch. Classic in most all respects the timepiece is a great retro luxury watch model and a fine example of the Cuervo Y Sobrinos watch character of today.
