Classic Yachting

If you know anything about boating, then you’d be familiar with a concept called “size matters”. This is usually true for hot blooded men with inferiority complex and lots and lots of money. However, there is a different category for men and women leaving sandbox based performance criterias behind, namely classic yachting. Mainly evocative of times when men were aroused by the sight of a female knee and women barely had voting rights, classic yachting is growing increasingly popular and pedigree boats command vast sums in exchange for owning rights.

In the Mediterranean there are plenty of regattas for many different classes with more than prestige involved, meaning proper prize money. With yachts often being up to 90 years old, sometimes even older, classic yachting is the watery equivalent of classic car racing. Something for the passionate ball of fire with adequate financial means to support the health of a yacht the age of your average great grandmother, however not nearly as frail.
Classic yachting is best left to those without the need to prove their worth by spraying Champagne or dating women half their age, but rather being a Gentleman of vast proportions.

Panerai is one of the major players on the scene sponsoring a good half dozen regattas ensuring the saturation level for big divers watches is quickly reaching critical mass. For men in white trousers and blue blazers and the occasional pipe dangling from beneath a white moustache, check out the classic yachting scene.

    Thank you Jens.
I have been waiting for this and I’m looking forward to more, although I’m a bit confused on how you see Clippers fitting into this scene. Not only because they’re usually passenger vessels or school ships, but because I sail them and I’m only a gentleman of small proportions and I do enjoy champagne.
