Buy Bernie Madoff’s watches this weekend
It seems that the Gaston & Sheehans are conducting an auction this Saturday. Among the items put up for sale are almost 200 items belonging to everyone’s favorite scumbag, Bernard Madoff (and his wife, Ruth). Why is he selling? Well, Bernie probably has quite a bit of damages to pay. Or maybe he just figured that a watch collection (and it’s quite a collection) is hard to enjoy if you’re looking to spend the coming 150 years behind bars. I love the American penal code.
Seems that Bernie is into vintage Rolexes, first of foremost. Some of the timpieces that caught my eye was a wonderful 18k 1966 Day-Date with roman numerals, an early 5513 Sub from 1960 and a professionally restored chronograph from 1933.
However, as much as I have weak spot for vintage Rolexes, especially that no-date Sub, the greatest item that’s for sell on Saturday is by far Bernie’s totally dope satin baseball jacket.
Interested in owning a piece of criminal history? Head over to New York this saturday. The auction is taking place at the Metropolitan Ballroom at the Sheraton. Here’s a catalogue with the different lots – number 196 to 386 are the Madoff items.
